Firefighters
to host defensible space open house for Sonoma Valley residents
SONOMA, Calif. – The Schell-Vista
Fire Protection District and CAL FIRE Sonoma-Lake-Napa Unit are teaming up to
host a defensible space open house to educate Sonoma Valley residents on fire
preparedness and home hardening measures they can take to protect their
families, homes and neighbors.
The open house will run from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 31 at
Schell-Vista’s Station 2 located at 1225 E Napa Street in Sonoma.
This hands-on training will equip attendees with critical
knowledge to protect homes and communities. Participants will learn how and why
structures burn and walk away with actionable strategies to create defensible
space and harden their homes.
Firefighters from both agencies will be on hand and can offer tips
and suggestions to homeowners. Attendees are encouraged to bring property maps
or photos for tailored advice.
Wildfire safety is a shared responsibility and we are here to
help. Easy-to-follow checklists, defensible space guidelines and evacuation
planning tools will be passed out at the event.
